Saint Valentine’s Day originated in Italy, during the Roman Empire. Legend has it that February 14th is often celebrated in honour of Juno, the queen of Roman gods and goddess and of women and marriage. However, another more popular legend stems around Valentine; a priest who secretly married soldiers during the war against the ban of the Roman emperors. Upon the discovery of his defiance, he was sentenced to death on the 14th of February, forever marking the date as one where lovers should celebrate the special day, defying all odds and laws!
