In Italy, a dining experience is only complete after indulging in a sweet treat. Like most main courses and starters, desserts also originate from different regions across the country. Whether you need a ‘pull-me-up’ in the form of AQUA Forte’s famous Tiramisù or a bowl of our classic Gelati e Sorbetti, here are four scrumptious authentic Italian desserts you must try in Sri Lanka, especially if you’re already in the Galle Fort!
A customer favourite and definitely one of our favourite desserts since childhood, Tiramisù means ‘pull-me-up’ in Italian, and that’s exactly what it does. Whether you’re exhausted from walking around the Galle Fort or enjoying a romantic meal with your partner, the Tiramisù promises to take you on an uplifting, delectable journey of flavour, aroma and rich goodness – all in one beautiful bite.
The ingredients for the Tiramisùu at AQUA Forte is made with layered homemade savoiardi (ladies fingers), which are dipped in rich espresso coffee, and then combined with a creamy mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese and flavoured with cocoa.
A glass of Recioto di Soave pairs perfectly with the dessert.

Although commonly consumed as a festive dessert during Easter, this traditional Italian dessert can be found throughout the year at AQUA Forte. La Pastiera Napoletana is an authentic dessert with a shortcut pastry base and a filling made from cooked wheat, ricotta cheese and candied fruits. The dessert is often flavoured with citrus or cinnamon.
Head Chef Roberto suggests pairing a glass of Recioto di Soave with a slice of La Pastiera Napoletana.
The perfect way to beat Sri Lanka’s hot, humid weather, especially after exploring the Galle Fort in a day! Try our Italian ice cream or sorbet – simply ask your waiter for the special flavours that we’ve prepared for the day! In a matter of minutes, you’ll be enjoying a refreshing serving of Italy’s flagship dessert.
Our reinterpretation of the classic Torino’s Gianduiotto chocolate. A hazelnut-flavoured chocolate with hazelnut crisps is the perfect choice for chocolate lovers. Shaped as ingots, the gianduiotto originates from Piedmont in northern Italy. Enjoy this sweet treat with a glass of Barolo Chinato; a popular Italian dessert wine.
